چکیده

We present the first autostereoscopic visualization system to project a real-time (live) medical data slice in-situ by use of a holographic optical element. Our system can project an essentially (1 mm in-slice accuracy) viewpoint-independent real-time virtual image into its actual anatomic location, enabling natural hand-eye coordination to guide invasive procedures. Our system does not require tracking or a head-mounted device, and it can project a 104x112 mm virtual image from a much smaller 19.3x15.5 mm source image. The system’s optics are non-axial, arranged so that the source image does not block the direct view of the patient and allows sufficient room for long tools to operate on the patient. We are currently adapting this system for use with ultrasound for guiding liver biopsy and amniocentesis.

Digital holographic microscopy: a noninvasive contrast imaging technique allowing quantitative visualization of living cells with subwavelength axial accuracy.

We have developed a digital holographic microscope (DHM), in a transmission mode, especially dedicated to the quantitative visualization of phase objects such as living cells. The method is based on an original numerical algorithm presented in detail elsewhere [Cuche et al., Appl. Opt. 38, 6994 (1999)]. DHM images of living cells in culture are shown for what is to our knowledge the first time....

Electrically switchable cylindrical Fresnel lens based on holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals using a Michelson interferometer

Fabricating an electrically switchable cylindrical Fresnel lens based on holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (H-PDLC) using a Michelson interferometer is reported. Simplicity of the method and possibility of fabricating different focal length lenses in a single set up are among the advantages of the method. It is demonstrated that the Fresnel structured zone plate acts as a cylindrica...

A Hybrid Method for Segmentation and Visualization of Teeth in Multi-Slice CT scan Images

Introduction: Various computer assisted medical procedures such as dental implant, orthodontic planning, face, jaw and cosmetic surgeries require automatic quantification and volumetric visualization of teeth. In this regard, segmentation is a major step. Material and Methods: In this paper, inspired by our previous experiences and considering the anatomical knowledge of teeth and jaws, we prop...

Holographic optics for a matched-filter optical processor.

The requirements on and the performance of holographic Fourier transform lenses for a matched-filter optical processor are discussed. The holographic aberrations were analyzed using a ray-tracing computer program, and holographic lenses were fabricated and assembled into an optical processor. Analysis and experimental results show that holographic optics are capable of processing images of larg...

Autoencoder-based holographic image restoration

We propose a holographic image restoration method using an autoencoder, which is an artificial neural network. Because holographic reconstructed images are often contaminated by direct light, conjugate light, and speckle noise, the discrimination of reconstructed images may be difficult. In this paper, we demonstrate the restoration of reconstructed images from holograms that record page data i...
